About the Calendar
A Place for Jazz does much more than put on its fall concert series. APFJ also has a strong commitment to promoting music education through concerts, public workshops, school-based clinics, this website and general support of Jazz and its musicians.
One of our most important initiatives has been the annual APFJ scholarship for students pursuing a musical education at SUNY Schenectady, an initiative that goes back to our very beginnings. Scholarships are funded entirely from cash donations, the proceeds from food & beverage sales and proceeds from the 50/50 raffles. We are very proud of our scholarship awardees, who have achieved significant accomplishments and even found their careers as music educators and performers. APFJ has awarded over $10,000 in scholarships to deserving students.
APFJ also contracts with many of its musicians to present jazz clinics and workshops in area schools and community organizations. In addition, APFJ has traditionally invited high school and middle school student jazz bands to perform at the intermissions of its concerts.

Clubs may have a cover, a music charge or a minimum purchase of food or drink. In many cases, reservations are advisable because of limited seating.
If your favorite club or artist is not listing jazz performances, explain to them in your most supportive manner that JAZZ AUDIENCES WILL NOT COME OUT IF PERFORMANCES REMAIN A SECRET! Ask them to send notices of jazz events to [email protected]. Using the calendar In LIST mode (selected in the upper right corner), it shows the next 24 events. You can advance it with the arrows in the upper left or lower right corners. In MONTH mode, you have to cursor over the event to see the venue. Advance the month with the arrows in the upper left corner. You can search for specific musicians by putting their name or the group name in the SEARCH FOR EVENTS field, but it will find them only if that’s how they’re listed. You can search for all events at a specific venue from the VENUES page |
